Defence equipment maker XTEK will move its local manufacturing and R&D operations from Adelaide to the United States, just a week after scoring an Australian government contract that could be worth $110 million to the company over the next 10 years.
The move is aimed at overcoming strict procurement rules to help the company, which has made a name for itself in high-performance body armour and ballistic helmets, secure greater business with the US Department of Defense.
Founded in 1978, XTEK is a supplier of defence systems and software, and secured the contract to provide the Australian Army with the Small Unmanned Aerial Systems (SUAS) known as Wasp in 2019. It acquired US-based ballistics business HighCom in 2019.
