Earlier this week I spoke with former Howard Government minister Amanda Vanstone about the Significant Investor Visa (SIV) program as a guest on her excellent weekly Radio National program, Counterpoint.
Amanda is a former Immigration Minister, and is particularly alert to the many difficult and complex implementation issues that can affect a program on the scale of the current government’s SIV initiative.
She is also alive to the opportunities presented by such a large pool of potential capital. There is presently more $5 billion worth of potential investment dollars stalled in the program, as the formal applications of more than 1,000 wealthy Chinese await processing.
But clearing the backlog is not always a straight-forward proposition.
I find this a fascinating issue. You can listen to the whole conversation here.
