Thermal storage pilot ‘back on track’ as ARENA support triples

The Australian Renewable Energy Agency has tripled its support for MGA Thermal to help the thermal energy storage company recommence delivery of its demonstration plant after overcoming unexpected challenges last year.

The firm originally received a $1.26 million grant from the ARENA to deliver the pilot plant by the end of April. However, during a testing phase last October, the device reached temperatures well above its expected operating level which caused small electrical fires.

With the additional $2.48 million, to be announced on Tuesday, and $5.7 million in capital raised last month, the firm says it is back on track and expects the plant will be fully online in September.
