PsiQuantum – the Silicon Valley startup that secured almost $1 billion from Australian governments – says it will need a lot more help to develop the world’s first useful quantum computer in Brisbane, but has shrugged off doubts about the technology’s staying power.
Dr Pete Shadbolt, who co-founded PsiQuantum with two Australians in 2016, this week declared the development of a useful commercial scale quantum computer in north east Brisbane a “species level challenge” with consequences for public health, food supplies and geopolitics.
Even early success, he says, will lead to ultra effective drug treatments and fertilizers that could one day be credited with saving millions of lives.
