Australia’s chief scientist Dr Cathy Foley leads a cast of researchers, policymakers, venture capitalists and deep technology entrepreneurs at The Industry Papers’ Canberra forum on Wednesday September 11.
Dr Foley has written a paper on what it will take to build a quantum technology ecosystem in Australia for The Industry Papers and will present her thinking at the Canberra forum.
Dr Foley authors one of five separate policy papers that address issues related to the quantum and semiconductor sectors, and how Australia can maximise the value of its expertise in these areas. She will lead a panel discussion on building the local quantum ecosystem.

“The Industry Papers is an important marker on the InnovationAus.com annual calendar. It is our contribution to discussions toward building Australian capability and production capacity, and all the benefits this delivers to the well-being of the country,” said publisher Corrie McLeod.
“In each of the three years that we have published these papers, we have found new pockets of innovation and excellence, and 2024 is no different,” she said.
“The Industry Papers has brought an incredible mix of contributions on everything from quantum, AI and robotics to data centres, 3D-printed manufacturing and public sector reform.”
For the first time, The Industry Papers includes a 32-page The Health Liftout that is focused on the special needs of the BioTech, MedTech and Digital Health sectors. Australia has tremendous research strengths in each of these areas, which are seen as a genuine opportunity to build for global supply chains.
Authors featured in The Health Liftout include University of Melbourne cardiologist and BioMelbourne Network director Professor Ian Meredith; Lumira Ventures managing director Australia Ben Constable; The Violet Initiative chair Kate Carnell; and ANDHealth chief executive Bronwyn Le Grice.
The Industry Papers Canberra forum will take place on the morning of Wednesday September 11 at Old Parliament House. The morning forum is followed by a networking lunch. You can reserve your seat at both events by following this link.
