The Robodebt Royal Commission has raised serious questions about ongoing practices within government in relation to the data exchange, data matching and data warehousing that was used to justify and perpetuate the illegal robodebt scheme.

The Commission has recommended that government seek new legal advice immediately on similar ongoing data matching processes and has questioned the advice that government is currently relying on.

Commissioner Catherine Holmes last week blasted the “neither fair nor legal” scheme that “made many people feel like criminals”. She criticised senior public servants and Coalition ministers while referring some of them for civil and criminal prosecutions.
