The ban on non-compete clauses is a ‘free kick’ for entrepreneurs


Banning non-compete clauses for the majority of Australian workers would remove a significant barrier to entrepreneurship, turbocharging the creation of startups while continuing to protect intellectual property and trade secrets.

That’s according to David Burt, the director of entrepreneurship at UNSW, who says the reforms proposed in last week’s federal Budget could unlock as many as 1,000 new startups across the country.

“The boost to entrepreneurship from the ban of non-competes is an oasis in an otherwise pretty depressing desert when it comes to federal economic development policy,” he told InnovationAus.com
