Australia’s almost $1 billion bet on a single quantum company is out of step with the yardstick set by other leading quantum nations, according to two local quantum startups, who have backed a national testbed to propel the sector forward.
But the companies remain hopeful the historic investment to lure US-based PsiQuantum to Australian shores will create a groundswell of interest in the local sector, regardless of whether it is successful in its endeavor to build the world’s first usable quantum computer.
The comments come as the federal Opposition presses for further information about the deal from the company founded by two Australians, after coming away from a meeting earlier this month disappointed by responses.
