CSIRO chief executive Doug Hilton has ruled out cuts to “research capacity” at the national science agency this financial year as a major restructure of it’s enterprise division continues.
Dr Hilton confirmed the agency’s digital business unit, Data61, and other research branches would be spared from the ongoing restructure prompted by the falloff in pandemic funding and rising operating costs.
Data61 had been bracing for heavy job losses following redundancies in CSIRO’s health and biosecurity, manufacturing and agriculture and food units numbering almost 80 last financial year.
