Australia has edged closer to cross-border acceptance of digital driver’s licences after a prototype verification platform designed to bring common standards into effect was successfully road-tested with users.
The milestone heralds a turning point in the nation’s move to verifiable digital credentials, giving states and territories a ‘standard gauge’ network for accepting national and international identities.
The new platform also opens the door to the use of digital wallets native to iOS or Android devices, removing the need for huge investment in digital infrastructure by smaller jurisdictions.
