Defence bypassed procurement rules for its trouble-plagued $199 million security clearance system, granting only Accenture the opportunity to develop a ‘solution to a budget’, an audit has found.
The audit also reveals the system, dubbed myClearance, will never deliver on its promise of continuous assessment and automated risk sharing, with the government opting to scale back the system late last year.
It follows a string of technical issues with myClearance since its launch last year, creating a logjam that prevented key national security agencies from vetting new employees.
