Senate crossbench draws Future Made in Australia battlelines

Senate crossbenchers that the federal government needs to win over to pass its Future Made in Australia bill are demanding more transparency, emissions assessments and an explicit ban on fossil fuel projects in the landmark legislation.

Outlined in Senate debate earlier this month, the demands set the scene for one of the last major policies the government is expecting to pass this term, with housing and environmental laws at an impasse in Canberra.

The Future Made in Australia (FMiA) bill will establish the framework for the government’s $22.7 billion clean energy reindustrialisation plan and comes in response to the growing intervention of foreign governments.
