The high cost of pushing SAP into Canberra’s legion of smaller, less complex agencies was behind the federal government’s recent decision to abandon its enterprise resource planning system (ERP) consolidation, documents obtained by InnovationAus.com reveal.
As the government begins market testing alternative ERP solutions, the documents also reveal the thinking around the “no regrets” reset of ERP is well advanced, with two of the biggest home-grown vendors already in the government’s sights.
Last week, Finance minister Katy Gallagher outlined the government’s new “APS ERP” approach to back-office functions, replacing the Shared Services Transformation Program that had existed since 2016 with a more nuanced plan of attack.
