The federal government’s digital agency sought assurances from the local arm of German software giant SAP after it settled a bribery investigation involving foreign government officials earlier this year.
The extraordinary step by the Digital Transformation Agency amid negotiations with the company on a lucrative procurement was prompted by charges brought by the US Justice Department and the Securities and Exchange Commission.
SAP agreed to pay US$222 million (A$332 million) in January to settle the charges that two of its subsidiaries conspired to bribe government officials in South Africa and Indonesia over a five-year period between 2013 and 2018.
