SA lawmakers to examine AI framework

South Australian lawmakers will use a new parliamentary inquiry to examine whether the state is well placed to seize on the opportunities presented by artificial intelligence while mitigating the risks.

The state Parliament has agreed to establish the inquiry in a bid to understand the current state of AI in South Australia, particularly the “economic, social and ethical implications”, with the state already an early mover on the technology.

Public schools began trialing a generative AI chatbot designed in partnership with Microsoft last week to teach high school students about the technology in a controlled environment with extra privacy and security controls.
