An independent review of Australia’s intelligence community has called on the Albanese government to scope a national security fund for dual-use tech that could help agencies like ASIO and the Federal Police.
Intelligence venture funds are well established as tools in the US and UK for developing dual-use technologies like quantum, AI and cybersecurity with private sector partners, while Defence is already exploring its own venture capital fund.
The proposed new fund for the national intelligence community would be an Australian first, aiming to develop a sovereign tech industry that can deliver more cutting edge capabilities to intelligence agencies.
