Ombudsman blasts underwhelming procurement response

The small business ombudsman has lashed an “underwhelming” government response to its procurement inquiry recommendations, after its calls for sweeping changes were quietly batted away.

Earlier this month, the Albanese government responded to a critical review of the $75 billion Commonwealth procurement system by pledging to back women’s entrepreneurship and increase training.

Key recommendations like elevating the Future Made in Australia Office into an independent procurement authority were rejected.
