NSW govt expands Digital ID trial to 100k photo card holders

A trial of NSW’s answer to Digital ID will expand to digital photo card holders this week, as the state government steps up work on the legislative underpinnings for a wider rollout.

The first new pilot of the NSW Digital ID and Wallet since June last year will give upwards of 100,000 residents in Western Sydney access to the first verifiable photo credential in Australia.

It comes more than four years after the NSW Digital Photo Card was first trialed in outer Sydney suburb of Penrith in 2021, mirroring and approach used for the NSW Digital Driver Licence (DDL).
