NSW Treasurer Daniel Mookhey’s first Budget has redirected millions of dollars set aside for science and innovation programs in order to deliver savings and to fund other priorities, including those unfunded by the former government.
Tuesday’s state Budget reveals the $703 million Future Economy Fund as one of several grant programs have will be ‘reprioritised’ to improve the Budget bottom line, following the pre-Budget review.
The pre-Budget review found $13 billion in savings over the next four years, including $530 million that would have been spent on consultants and labor-hire companies. Other savings have been found by scrapping EV subsidies in favour of charging infrastructure.
