No plans to replace canned SA hydrogen projects

The South Australian government will not look for additional Port Bonython Hydrogen Hub proposals despite two large projects led by Japanese petrochemical companies withdrawing from the planned precinct.

In late February, the state government confirmed that development agreements had been signed for five of the seven shortlisted projects planned for the site. It followed an initial expression of interest process for the Port Bonython Hydrogen Hub in May 2021.

Proposals were withdrawn for two projects, a renewable hydrogen facility led by Chiyoda and Mitsubishi, and an ENEOS facility for converting hydrogen into methylcyclohexane (MCH) in partnership with French renewable energy producer Neoen.
