Government services minister Bill Shorten has pushed back against suggestions that algorithms are being used to sort National Disability Insurance Scheme participants into support packages not suited to their individual needs.
Responding to questions from InnovationAus.com about the use of automated decision making in the NDIS, Mr Shorten on Wednesday said there was no “massive algorithm program designed to try and fit everyone into a narrow band of packages”.
He said the question had been posed multiple times “on the internet, in chat rooms, and now the Blue room [in Parliament House]”, but that there was ultimately no basis to it.
