Australia’s chief scientist Dr Cathy Foley did not author the first-ever National Quantum Strategy, the Industry department has claimed, in an effort to keep the contents of an earlier draft of the strategy under wraps.
The refusal to release the draft strategy in full comes as questions continue to be asked over when the federal government first began investigating an unsolicited proposal from US-based startup PsiQuantum for a near $1 billion joint investment with Queensland.
Newly released documents reveal a “whole-of-government working group” was already up an running in January 2023 — six months before a cross-government technology investment taskforce was established.
