National data centre strategy talks break cover


The Albanese government is in early talks with industry to develop a national data centre strategy that helps steer the sector as the immense compute needs of AI workloads drive an explosion in demand for the facilities.

As the dust settles from Australia’s largest-ever data centre sale earlier this year, details of discussions between the government and hyperscale cloud and data centre providers have emerged.

Special Envoy for Cybersecurity and Digital Resilience Andrew Charlton, who took up the role in a July ministerial reshuffle, attended the first of a series of planned roundtables with industry players late last month.
