Multinationals ‘gaming’ SME procurement rules: Bruce Billson

Multinational businesses are gaming Commonwealth Procurement Rules to maintain their tendering advantage over small and medium- sized enterprises, according to Australian Small Business and Family Enterprise Ombudsman Bruce Billson.

Mr Billson is currently leading a review of Commonwealth procurement changes implemented in July 2022, with a particular focus of its impact on small business participation in Commonwealth procurement. The final report is due to be handed to the federal government in December.

After addressing a forum hosted by the Parliamentary Friends of Small Business on Monday, Mr Billson told InnovationAus.com that large firms are creating new small business subsidiaries to take advantage of provisions for small and indigenous-owned businesses.
