Multinational prime contractors are being invited to apply for the next iteration of the Defence department’s Global Supply Chain Program, which intends to help Australian small to medium sized businesses access long-term export opportunities.
The program, which has run for 16 years, encourages multinational prime contractors to help Australian defence firms sell into global supply chains. However, a local industry body has questioned its effectiveness.
Prime contractors receive multi-million dollar contracts to fund “embedded teams” within their organisations “to apply internal influence for the inclusion of Australian suppliers in international markets, across Defence and civil sectors in which the Prime operates,” according to registration documents.
