Australia’s digital and data ministers have agreed to a national assurance framework for artificial intelligence that promises a consistent approach to the use of the technology across federal, state and territory governments.
The decision, taken at the Data and Digital Ministers Meeting in Sydney on Friday, follows months of work to create a national AI assurance framework based on New South Wales’ existing policy framework.
NSW’s framework was introduced in late 2021 to help agencies to design, build and use AI “safely and securely” and has recently been updated to include new guidance for generative AI tools like ChatGPT.
