Australian quantum leaders remain hopeful the federal government will follow its bet on PsiQuantum with future investments in the local quantum scene, arguing “serious money” is needed to build an effective ecosystem.
In the wake of a Budget largely devoid of new funding for technology initiatives, local quantum startups that are also vying to build the world’s first fault-tolerant quantum computer have renewed calls on the government to round out its “visionary investment” in the Californian company.
Substantial funding for a national quantum computing testbed is among the ideas being proposed, including as a way to “de-risk” government investment, as PsiQuantum’s faces setbacks with planning approval for its proposed facility in Brisbane.
