Legacy tech sweep for govt’s new investment plan

Decades old legacy technologies are creating concerns across the federal government, with tech heavy Services Australia conducting a sweep of their own aging systems and the Digital Transformation Agency looking at how to manage potentially massive uplift costs across the Commonwealth.

An “end-to-end architecture review” will begin next month at Services Australia to examine its major systems. Findings would be used to inform future investments that would require approvals ahead of next year’s Budget.

The DTA’s work meanwhile is wider and will be considered by the Secretaries’ Digital and Data Committee (SDDC) as part of the long-term technology planning that underpins the government’s new approach to funding digital projects.
