Freshly-minted Victorian Premier Jacinta Allen has named her first ministry, shifting deputy Premier Ben Carroll from the Industry and Innovation portfolio to the dual responsibilities as Minister for Education and Minister for Medical Research.
The new ministry is a mixed bag, bringing sweeping changes to the innovation-facing roles while removing ‘Innovation’ from the Victorian government’s primary Industry portfolio.
While Ben Carroll had been Minister for Industry and Innovation and Minister for Sovereign Manufacturing under former premier Dan Andrews, he is effectively succeeded by Natalie Hutchins, the former Education minister who has been appointed Minister for Jobs and Industry.
