HEO chalks up ‘fly-by’ satellite imaging high

Local space technology startup HEO is using its growing fleet of in-space cameras to document and survey other satellites, creating what the company says is the world’s largest privately-held dataset of its kind.

Since the start of this year, the company has undertaken nearly a thousand imaging missions, utilising the 47 in-space cameras it can access. As of June 2024, it had completed about 2,170 non-Earth imaging missions.

Its efforts have attracted the attention of civil space agencies seeking greater insight into Low Earth orbit satellite operations as some struggle to identify all the objects being shot into space.
