Building on Australia’s sovereign development capability in the commercial BioTech, MedTech and digital health sectors will be the focus of a Health Tech Summit and dinner being held at the State Library of Victoria on 3 September.

The Health Tech Summit brings together a curated room of industry leaders from across the full spectrum of stakeholders – from health-focused venture capital to researchers, deep tech scale-ups and government policymakers.

If you are a senior health executive, researcher or entrepreneur and you would like to participate in this high-level discussion on the challenges and opportunities for building health tech businesses in this country, you can register your interest here.

Helping to lead the discussion is federal Labor MP Dr Michelle Ananda-Rajah, a specialist in infectious diseases and general medicine who was elected as the member for Higgins at the 2022 election. Dr Ananda-Rajah is member of Parliament’s Standing Committee on Health, Aged Care and Sport.

The Health Tech Summit and dinner is the Melbourne leg of InnovationAus.com’s four-city, four-event series for The Industry Papers. The Industry Papers is a 65,000-word tabloid industry development policy newspaper that will be launched at Old Parliament House in Canberra on September 11, 2024.

The policy discussions from the Health Tech Summit will be published as a Special Report on the InnovationAus.com website in September. The format for the summit includes a ‘progressive dinner’, in attendees switch tables between courses to engage in a series of moderated discussions

The point of the progressive dinner is push the curated audience of industry leaders, government executives and investors to better understand the needs and interests of the different parts of the health tech ecosystem.

The event cover themes, including:

Building HealthTech products for global markets: Where has Australia been successful, and what were the primary inputs to that success? What adjustments need to be made to improve Australia’s ‘run rate’ of global success?

Sovereign capability and supply chain resilience in health: From cell therapy to vaccines, ventilators and hospital grade materials – how do we plan for continuity and supply?

Experienced health-focused venture capital: There is a dearth of specialist VC in the Australia health sector, and it is holding Australian industry back. Where do new government funds such as the NRF and Breakthrough Victoria fit into this VC picture?

Regulatory frameworks: Getting the balance right between protecting Australian healthcare consumers and harmonisation with comparable economies and societies.

The go-to destination for clinical trials: Australia’s stable and diverse population, coupled with a robust regulatory environment is positioning us as a global destination for clinical trials. How can we leverage this to enhance our reputation and expertise in such a critical area?

The Health Tech Summit and dinner is a unique, one-off event, Seats are limited to 60 dinner guests. If you would like to attend, please register your interest here.
