The federal government has refused to release documentation about its secret expression of interest process conducted with quantum computing companies, but in doing so has confirmed that the process took place last year.
InnovationAus.com submitted a freedom of information request to obtain the expression of interest (EoI) document in November, following reports the government had quietly approached a select number of local and foreign quantum companies.
The EoI, which has been kept under wraps through an unusually strict non-disclosure agreement, came just months after the federal government released its inaugural National Quantum Strategy and proposed building the “world’s first error-corrected quantum computer in Australia”.
