A taskforce of top officials from the Treasury, Energy and Environment, and Industry portfolios have spent most of the last year preparing a plan to make the Albanese government’s green energy superpower ambition a reality.
The taskforce has homed in on four priority areas – critical minerals, energy generation and storage, green hydrogen and green steel – and is finalising advice to government for the May federal Budget.
The involvement of Treasury and Industry with the taskforce led by the Department of Climate Change, Energy, Environment and Water (DCCEEW) potentially puts tax breaks and subsidies on the table for clean energy and manufacturing firms.
