Govt eyes law reform to finally deliver connected digital services

Services Australia is quietly reviewing legislative obstacles that have stymied the delivery of connected government services across different jurisdictions, as part of an internal project that also keeps alive calls to legislate the myGov portal as national infrastructure.

Draft options have been developed for changes to legislation that would remove data and service silos to fulfill long-held ambitions for a ‘tell us once’ approach to citizen interactions and the huge efficiency savings this would deliver.

But the government has not committed to the legislative reforms and has been advised it will also need a strong narrative to make the changes “palatable” to citizens.
