A New South Wales-like digital government fund for Canberra is firming, with the Albanese government considering a mechanism to support projects outside of the ordinary budget cycle as part of its new Data and Digital Government Strategy.
Finance minister Katy Gallagher told a Senate Estimates hearing on Friday that a digital fund along the lines of NSW’s Digital Restart Fund (DRF) is being contemplated at the federal level, having been pressed to do so by former NSW minister Victor Dominello.
“[The DRF] has been put to me directly by former NSW minister Dominello, and certainly he urged me to consider it as part of our thinking about our work going forward, so we are looking at it,” she said under questioning by Nationals senator James McGrath.
