Austrade plans to reform the popular Export Market Development Grants into a “first-in-first served program” rather than splitting funds across all eligible applicants to boost the value of individual grants.
The program provides matched funding to support marketing activity undertaken by small to medium sized businesses (SMEs) to build or expand export markets. However grant values plummeted after the program was changed in 2021.
During the latest round of Senate Estimates, Austrade officials flagged that “stronger eligibility requirements” would be implemented alongside the move to a “first-in, first-served program” to help lower demand for the program.
