Federal digital proposals are failing at the Cabinet hurdle

Less than a third of technology projects submitted for review by the federal government’s digital investment cop last financial year were closely enough aligned with Cabinet approved policies and standards for approval, new data shows.

Agencies are also not always submitting proposals to the Digital Transformation Agency in a timely fashion, with 30 per cent of projects not making it to the government’s digital advisor for review before the Budget deadline.

The figures, contained in the DTA’s latest annual report, come as Finance minister Katy Gallagher flags the need to strengthen the DTA’s oversight role to prevent a repeat of the upgrade of the country’s business registers.
