Widespread electronic voting is a “terrible idea” for Australia, security experts told an inquiry on Monday, amid calls for a national platform to standardise procedures and cut costs.

Australian National University associate professor Vanessa Teague and University of NSW’s Dr Hammond Pearce urged NSW lawmakers to resist a hasty move away from paper voting and any potential national system for electronic voting.
