Energy innovation grants to test flexible demand

Projects that help identify and mange energy load flexibility – a key factor in Australia’s transforming energy grid and power prices – have received around $4.5 million in the latest funding from the federal government’s clean energy innovation agency.

The funding from the Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA) will secure two local research and development efforts trialling the flexible demand tech in households and commercial premises.

Flexible demand – including both large-scale demand and controllable EV charging and batteries – could generate up to $18 billion in cost savings for consumers, according to ARENA research.
