‘Embrace interventionist industry policy’ to fix R&D woes

The federal government must use its generational review of the R&D system to link it to industry policy, according to robotics and artificial intelligence groups, which say the coordination would produce bigger and bolder companies.

The groups have joined growing calls for the government to lift R&D investment back to globally competitive levels by 2030, including more support for their sectors.

But they say the spend must come with smarter industry wide policy to scale up Australian companies and keep them onshore as new innovation pillars.
