A Senate inquiry into the Department of Defence’s support for local industry has wrapped up without offering any recommendations to boost sovereign capability or address procurement deficiencies.
The Senate Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs, Defence, and Trade quietly completed its inquiry on the final day of Parliament last week, having conducted no additional hearings in the months after being granted the extension.
Despite the interim report flagging several areas that warranted further inquiry, the final report said the 2024 Defence Industry Development Strategy “goes a considerable way toward addressing the issues identified by this inquiry”.
