The Department of Defence did not implement additional probity measures for PwC contractors working on its troubled industry security clearance program last year, despite concerns about the company eventually cutting the work off.

As the tax leaks scandal was engulfing the government early last year, PwC was allowed to continue assisting the administration of the clearance program while also receiving dozens of clearances for its own staff.

The arrangement came under fire at Senate estimates, with Independent Senator David Pocock accusing officials of an inadequate response to PwC and instead “hoping for the best”.
