Defence’s mammoth backend technology upgrade has slipped by half a decade and could now cost $3.5 billion — around three times initial estimates – with a consulting giant handed $52 million for “change management” at the project’s most critical juncture.
With origins in 2015, the Defence ERP project is aiming to standardise key business processes and replace ageing systems with one SAP S/4 HANA enterprise resource process (ERP) solution.
Defence had originally aimed at finishing by 2025 at a cost between $1 billion and $2 billion but has now pushed back the end date to 2030 and a new reported cost of up to $3.5 billion.
