Locating the Advanced Strategic Capabilities Accelerator (ASCA) within the Defence establishment would give the newly created organisation the best chance of delivering not only accelerated “speed to capability”, but better, more productive relationships with Australian suppliers and innovators.
A new structure for capability development, in which a reformatted Capability Acquisition and Sustainment Group (CASG) has people and processes embedded in the ASCA, would ultimately delivery better “capability pathways” for innovative local companies to sell into Defence.
The Defence Strategic Review recommended an overhaul of Defence innovation. The changes included the closure of the Defence Innovation Hub and the Next Generation Technologies Fund, now effectively replaced by the newly-created ASCA, and its closer ties to the re-wired CASG.
