Former head of the Innovative Manufacturing Cooperative Research Centre David Chuter will take charge of the Albanese government’s $392 million small and medium enterprise commercialisation program next month.

Mr Chuter, who led global manufacturing businesses before the CRC, will be the inaugural executive director of the new Industry Growth Program (IGP).

Announced in this year’s budget, the IGP aims to help SMEs bridge the commercialisation ‘valley of death’ with advice and matched grant funding of up to $5 million. The support will only go to organisations aligned with the priority areas of the $15 billion National Reconstruction Fund, which will invest in more established companies.
