A six-month trial of Microsoft Copilot across the federal government has surpassed the $1.2 million it was originally costed at and could grow higher still as more users sign up to try out the generative AI tool.
But the agency coordinating the trial, which will wrap up at the end of June unless extended, has refused to reveal the price citing “commercial in confidence” sensitives in the contract signed without an open tender.
Prime Minister Anthony Albanese announced the trial in November making the government one of the first in the world to widely deploy the tool that is capable of automating tasks and creating content within Microsoft’s productivity applications.
