Census tech ‘on track’ as bill tips $30m

The forecast bill for Australia’s 2026 Census has cracked $30 million, with the government to again rely on Amazon Web Services cloud technologies but ditch troubled consultancy PwC for delivery.

The Australian Bureau of Statistics, which will conduct major tests on underlying technology — much of it reused from 2021 — later this year and in 2025, says the tech build up is “on track” after switching delivery partners.
