The case for a temporary safe harbour to improve information sharing between businesses and government during a cyber-attack is building, with Australia’s key business lobby the latest to recommend such a measure.
In a submission to the cybersecurity strategy consultation, the Business Council of Australia said that a temporary safe harbour should be introduced as part of the forthcoming cybersecurity strategy to shield companies from liability.
The legal protection would see “any reports treated as confidential, and not passed between agencies or used for regulator investigation or enforcement action until such time as an incident has been contained and/or addressed”.
