Budget 2024: Billions for clean energy shift, APS tech uplift


More than $20 billion in federal government support will be made available for renewable hydrogen, critical minerals and clean energy technologies in a future-making Budget that also sets up billions in spending on technology upgrades across the public sector.

Treasurer Jim Chalmers’ third Budget wraps up a month-long offensive by the government to establish Future Made in Australia as its landmark industry policy, designed to help the country compete with interventionalists policies from comparable developed nations around the world.

“To realise the opportunities of a Future Made in Australia we’re changing the way we attract and deploy investment,” the Treasurer said in his Budget speech, which reveals a $22.7 billion package to make Australia a “indispensable part of the global economy”.
