Liberal backbencher Aaron Violi is teaming up with Labor counterpart Dr Daniel Mulino to design a Technology Assessment Office to make information on cutting-edge technologies, such as artificial intelligence and quantum, more accessible to policymakers.
The parliamentary office could act like the Parliamentary Budget Office (PBO), which provides analysis of the financial implications of policies, that is independent of government.
Mr Violi told InnovationAus.com that he is in early talks with Dr Mulino, who is the chair of the House Standing Committee on Economics, on what form the office might take.
